The French Riviera

June 13, 2016

June 2nd is Festa della Repubblica or Republic Day in English which lead to a long weekend in Italy. My host family owns a beach house in the French Riviera and they invited me to come with them for the weekend. Of course I say yes!

We stayed in Menton, France, a beach resort town with beautiful gardens and streets lined with Palm trees and located right next to the sea.

I spent one day in Nice, France, about a 30-40 min train ride from Menton. Nice had vibrant white sand beaches. The Old Town (Vieille Ville) is a very charming suburb near the water with a lot of alley ways to explore, fun places to eat and neat little shops.

From the beach I explored my way up Castle Hill using the staircase leading to a look out of the beach and the Old Town. There were also a couple of other paths on Castle hill that lead to more lookouts, a waterfall, a playground and a couple of souvenir shops and a small cafe.

I also explored the town of Monte Carlo in Monaco and Cannes, France with my host family.

Walking the streets of Monte Carlo

Monte Carlo definitely screams luxury and money. The buildings are in good shape and there are a ton of pretty flowers and expensive cars.

From the Prince's Palace (Palais du Prince) which over looked Monaco I got to see the race track for the grand prix. In front of the Prince's Palace I also got to see the changing of the guards which was a unique experience.

Cannes, known for its Film Festivals, was another nice town right next to the water with a lot of places to shop, and some fun activities for the kids.
